Cellular service is available to RU Directors, Administrators and Lab Heads. Department Heads must approve all other requests for those who are interested in cellular service or obtaining a cell phone. Cellular Policy

Mobile Communication Device Usage and Service Policy

Available Services

  • Place orders for new PCDs - we will notify the authorized person when the Personal Communications Device (PCD) can be picked up
      Note: Best effort basis will be made and not guaranteed for copying data and/or contacts from other PCD device upon request
  • Place upgrade requests to replace existing PCD devices - we will notify the authorized person when the Personal Communications Device (PCD) can be picked up

  • Place orders for rental phones - we will notify the authorized person when the Personal Communications Device (PCD) can be picked up
  • Work with the authorized person and the carriers for updating service plans, including for who travel abroad
  • Work with the carrier to trouble shoot PCD connectivity issues, as needed
  • Train users on how to use their mobile devices: contact the Help Desk at x8940 or the Cellular Services group.
  • Recycle unused/old cellular devices. To have your old device recycled for you, drop them off at the IT Help Desk.

Cellular Services & Providers

  • Rent-A-Wireless Device — Cellular phones can be rented on a temporary basis. Cellular Services can handle ordering a rental device on your behalf with a minimun of seven (7) business day advance notice or you may order directly by accessing CellHire's web site.

  • AT&T Wireless— offers local, regional and national cellular calling plans

  • Verizon Wireless— offers America's Choice and Local Digital Choice cellular plans

  • Sprint Nextel— offers local and national cellular calling plans as well as Direct Connect Service (Digital two-way radio) and Group Talk (Talk "groups" digital two-way radio)

  • T-Mobile — offers a United States cellular plan and Northeast Neighborhood (NYC) cellular plan

  • International Cellular service can be provided for travelling abroad.
    Users are required to notify PCD a minimal of one week prior of travel needs to add international rate plan (if applicable).

  • All calling plans are based on where you are calling and how often you use your phone

  • Cellular rate plans are subject to change without notice from the carrier. Billed rate plans include all rate plan charges, applicable taxes, fees and Rockefeller IT administrative surcharge.

To Request or Modify Services

  • PCD Order Requests— Procedure on submitting written requests for PCD new orders or billing transfers.

    All requests must be submitted via email.

    It is the responsiblity of the PCD user to ensure proper rate plan exists on their line at all times, including prior to and after traveling overseas.

    Rate plan modifications require one week advance notice.

    It is the responsibility of the user to notify PCD immediately upon having their device lost or stolen. Users are responsible for all charges, including but not limited to calls and text messages sent and received as well as any data usage until the carrier is notified by Cellular Services group.
