Campus Network
Related Documents:A Gigabit Ethernet backbone network provides faculty, staff and students with high-speed access the campus Intranet, the Internet (50 mbps) and Internet2 (50 mbps)—a national high-speed research and education network backbone. PC and Macintosh computers can connect to the network remotely via DSL, Cable Modem, by secure VPN, or via the campus dial-up service. Wireless access is also available in select areas of the campus via the RUWireless network.
Popular protocols supported on the network are: TCP/IP, Appletalk, and NetBEUI. Electronic mail via IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) and POP3 (Post Office Protocol) is available directly to your desktop machine via a local e-mail client (see our recommended/supported clients) or RU Web Mail.
Please refer to the rates schedule for more information on network installation and the monthly service charges.
Getting on the Network
On-campus connectivity to the network requires activation of a network jack and assignment of an IP address. To activate a network jack in your lab or office, have an IP address assigned to your computer, contact the Help Desk at x8940 with:
- your jack number (indicated on the face plate of the jack)
- your building and room number where jack is (or will be) located
