About Information Technology
Information Technology (IT) is responsible for the security, administration and maintenance of the campus computer network, as well as the telecommunications network for voice services on campus and maintaining two data centers. Our goal is to provide information resources and services in support of scientific research to The Rockefeller University community. In addition to providing technical support, voice services and access to electronic resources for general and scientific use, IT also partners with labs and departments to create custom solutions and applications for special needs. Other available services include computer training, consulting and computer facilities management.

The Campus Computer Network
A Gigabit Ethernet backbone network provides faculty, staff and students with high-speed (100 Mb/sec) access to the campus Intranet, the Internet, and Internet2 (the research and education network). PC and Macintosh computers can connect to the network remotely via DSL, Cable Modem, by via the secure VPN. Wireless access is also available throughout campus via the RUWireslessSecure network for the Rockefeller community and via the RUGuest for guests. Popular protocols supported on the network are: TCP/IP, Appletalk, and NetBEUI.
Telecommunications Network & Voice Services
IT is responsible for T-1 lines, cabling, jacks, dial tones for campus telephones and modems, as well as voice services, such as cellular services, voicemail, ISDN, and installations of cable/DSL modems.

Campus Resources
IT provides access to resources such as e-mail, research databases, and scientific programs. Electronic mail (via Microsoft Exchange) is available directly to your desktop machine via a local e-mail client (see our recommended/supported clients) or via RU Web Mail.
