- New SPSS 16.0.1.6 Hotfix for Windows
SPSS has released a hotfix update for Windows (a fix for Mac and Linux to be made available in a few weeks) that fixes a problem in SPSS 16.0.1 whereby modifications are made to an existing data file and the file appears to save, yet the file is missing from the system. This problem can occur if you exit the application without explicitly saving your file first

- Mac Office 2008 for Mac
Microsoft has released Office 2008 for Mac, its latest version of Office. Because Office 2008 may not be compatible with previous versions of Office applications, Information Technology (IT) advises that you not to purchase the latest version at this time. IT will test Office 2008 and alert the campus of known conflicts.

- Share Your Desktop or Application Remotely With Others
There are several options for those users who wish to share their desktop or an application with a remote user (either on or off-campus). Since these services are maintained by off-campus vendors and are web-based, there are no firewall restrictions. Off-campus users may view a users on campus application or desktop or vice versa. Users may even view the desktop or application of the remote computer as well.

- “Booby-trapped” links and attachments
allow hackers to steal your data
A large percentage of computer infections and break-ins on campus happen because users click “booby-trapped” links or files found in e-mail, Instant Messages or on Web sites. Dangerous links can be difficult to distinguish from safe ones. Clicking them can allow hackers to steal your data. IT has developed a poster campaign and Web page to help the community learn to discern between safe and unsafe links.
